TRUE ENERGY provides battery backup solutions for both off-grid and grid-tied systems for COMMERCIAL and RESIDENTIAL customers throughout our service area. We have a variety of backup solutions including:
One problem with a simple grid-tied solar system is that when the grid goes down, so does your solar system. This means, no grid = no power. With the addition of a battery backup system, your solar array will continue to generate usable power during grid outages and charge up the battery bank so you will have power during the night-time hours as well.
A battery backup system for your solar array can be sized for everything from emergency power for lighting and electronics to whole home power for major appliances.
While a grid-tied solar system generally doesn’t have a large enough solar array to supply 100% of the energy for the loads, an off-grid system must be able to supply all of the required power all of the time. A typical off-grid solar system will consist of the following:
All of these components MUST be sized properly in order to provide sufficient power and energy to meet the load requirements for the home or business.
For remote areas where power is not readily available, we have small scale solutions available to provide power for lighting, electronics, communications equipment, small pumping systems, etc. Using a combination of solar power, batteries and a charge controller, we can provide 12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC power as well as 120VAC and 240VAC if needed. These systems are useful for:
Backup system design can be quite complex, especially for solar battery systems. In order to assure that your system performs as expected, especially when it is needed most, a proper system design is a must. At TRUE ENERGY, we always do a proper engineering design for every battery system.
If you have an existing solar array or generator, we can design a battery backup system that integrates with your existing equipment as well.
When we design your backup system, we will need to collect some information from you in order to properly size your battery bank, generator and inverter equipment. The following section describes some of the information and design parameters we will need..
In order to do a proper backup system design, we need an inventory of all of the devices to be operated off of the backup system. This includes the power (wattage) rating for each device along with the number of hours of usage per day.
Based on the load analysis, we can determine the total continuous power that our backup system must be able to generate.
Devices such as well pumps, refrigerators, HVAC systems, etc draw a large amount of current when they start up. This can be up to 6 times the amount of continuous current they normally draw. For these types of devices we need to assign a surge factor so we can make sure that the inverter can provide the needed amount of current to those devices.
For devices such as motors, fans, compressors and pumps we need to know the power factor. The power factor tells us how much real power the device uses. This is important in determining the size of the backup system.
Given the hours of usage for each load supported by the backup system we can calculate the amount of daily energy required to operate your loads. This energy value must take into account power factor for devices such as motors, pumps, etc.
The Days of Autonomy is the number of days you would like to be able to operate your backup loads off of your battery system without recharging the battery bank from your power source such as solar, the grid or a generator.
Certain environmental factors affect the system performance. The biggest factor is temperature. High temperatures negatively affect inverters and charge controllers where as very low temperatures negatively affect battery bank performance.
Other parameters include Load Fraction, Depth of Discharge, Recycle Factor, etc. All of these factors go into a proper design for your battery backup system.
TRUE ENERGY only uses experienced installation professionals. We have in-house PV solar engineers to design your system and our trained installation teams include a NABCEP certified PV Installation Professional and Licensed Master Electrician. Don’t trust your solar installation to just anyone, rely on TRUE ENERGY.
Our designs use only the most reliable, highest efficiency PV modules, inverters and racking systems in the industry. This includes inverters from Enphase, SolarEdge, Schneider Electric and Outback Power as well as American made modules from Solar World. Where possible we prefer American made components.
Enphase, SolarEdge and SolarWorld all offer a 25 year manufacturer’s warranty. When installing a solar system, insist on the best equipment, module level power optimization and module level monitoring. Have an equipment preference ? We can get almost any available equipment on the market. Just let us know, we can design a system within your specifications.
